The Women at Work Skillnet was established in 2008 to provide customised training programmes for vulnerable groups of women involved in the retail, financial services, communications and healthcare sectors, at no cost to the participants. This was achieved through the investment of matched funds by each Union representing those groups of women workers. The aim of the network is to upskill, re-skill and develop the personal confidence levels of women through training and networking in order to develop their business skills base, to assist them in makng their careers a success and enhance organisational competitiveness. This ultimately optimises their contribution to the labour market and the economy.

Our Vision is to up skill people and particularly women to enable them to optimise their full potential during their working lives. This aim will be met by giving participant an ideal opportunity to enhance their skills through professional training and development courses.

Our Skillnet is spearheaded by five Trade Unions, Mandate, CWU, IBOA INMO and SIPTU together with ICTU, the national trade union confederation, whose combined membership of women is in excess of 100,000 working today in Ireland. The network is supported by a cross section of employers, including some very large employers.
